The Northern Minnesota Metalsmith's Spring Conference
Our metalsmith conference is held the last full weekend of April.
This years conference is happening April 29th and 30th with a potluck the evening of the 28th for those who arrive to camp out for the conference.
Our knife making demonstrator this year is CODY HOFSOMMER.
Cody is a bladesmith from Aurora, MN. He has been making knives since 2010, and has always enjoyed making things with his hands. He attained Journeyman status through the American Bladesmith Society in 2018. Cody was also a Forged in Fire champion in season 7’s episode 18 which aired January 22, 2020. He specializes in Damascus knives, and enjoys making a variety of styles and patterns.He has been a demonstrator for Midwest Knifemakers Guild, The Northern Minnesota Metalsmiths, and the St Louis County Fair, and other hammer-ins around the region. Cody is a farrier by trade, and spends his days shoeing horses or working on various projects in his shop.
Our blacksmith demonstrator this year is LARS MORCH.
Lars runs the “Mørch’s Smedie,” a tool smithy in northwest Denmark. His visit to the U.S. is supported by the Viking Connection, a program of the Historical & Cultural Society of Clay County, MN. Traditional crafts are important to Lars since his childhood. He spends his summer days re-enacting the life of our Viking Age ancestors. He hosts and teaches forging classes throughout the year in his home country of Denmark. Lars places great importance on the journey of the process. He encourages students to embrace the joy and challenges that go along with learning something new. His hope is to inspire students to adventure further with their chosen craft.
